GUIDELINES FOR A MUSIC SCHOLARSHIP

 

Application

 

Coastal Concerts, Inc. has established an annual scholarship for a student in music performance, education, or composition.  The scholarship will be in the amount of $500.  It is intended to defray expenses incident to the study of music including tuition, fees, and travel.  Preferential consideration will be given to high school juniors or seniors in Sussex County who have been accepted by a music school or program. Applications and guidelines will be mailed on request or are available on our website www.coastalconcerts.org.  Also, please check with your school guidance office.

 

 

Procedure:

 

A candidate will submit:

 

1.  A letter including the purpose, place, and time in which the money will be

     used; and career plans or goals in music.

2.  A synopsis of music experience including band/orchestra/choir, recitals,

     performances, honors, summer workshops, and repertory examples.

3.  A recording of two contrasting selections representative of the student's      work.

4.  The application.

5.  Two letters of reference, from music teachers or professionals in the field,

     which reflect the candidate's talent, ability, performances, and/or potential.

6.  High school transcript.

 

 

Time Line:

Mid September         Applications are mailed

October 31                 All application materials are due to Coastal Concerts.

November 7 - 30       The committee will invite qualified applicants for an audition.

December 15 - 31      The selected candidate will be notified. 

January – April          The candidate will attend a Coastal Concerts performance, as                                        a guest of the Outreach Committee, where the award will be                                        officially announced.

 

As appropriate: The student will present statements or receipts to the Outreach Committee for approval and payment.
