Coastal Concerts to present The Vienna Piano Trio Oct. 25 in Lewes

Those traditionalists amongst classic chamber music lovers will find a special evening Saturday, Oct. 25, when the rich and vibrant melodies of Mozart, Ravel and Beethoven fill the Bethel United Methodist Church hall in Lewes.

Coastal Concerts will present the Vienna Piano Trio, which is making a one-day stop in Lewes as part of its U.S. tour.

“We are absolutely thrilled to have landed this talented group of musicians,” says David Cristy, president of Coastal Concerts. “They’ve captured audiences throughout the world and now we, too, have a chance to enjoy them.”

The trio was founded in 1988 by violinist Wolfgang Redik, cellist Marcus Trefny and pianist Stefan Mendl. These three musicians have performed together in virtually every major music center in Europe, the Americas, Australia and Asia.

The Vienna Piano Trio regularly performs at music festivals in Austria, France and Canada. The group has recorded works by Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Mendelssohn, Dvorák, Shostakovich and Schnittke, all released on the British label Nimbus Records. Its recordings have earned the trio highest critical acclaim as well as several awards.

The concert will begin at 8 p.m. The trio will kick off the evening with Piano Trio in B-flat by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. They will follow with a Piano Trio in A minor by Maurice Ravel, and following the intermission Piano Trio in B-flat Major, Op. 97 by Ludwig van Beethovan.

Tickets for each Coastal Concerts performance are $20 per person. Youth 18 years old and under are given free admission at the door both for themselves and for one accompanying adult. Tickets can be purchased individually at the door, or in advance. Or, concert-goers are encouraged to buy season tickets for a savings. Season-ticket packages can be purchased at the concert, in advance by mail or by visiting the website www.coastalconcerts.org and clicking on “purchase tickets” for secure, on-line ordering.

Coastal Concerts programs are made possible, in part, by grants from the Delaware Division of the Arts, a state agency dedicated to nurturing and supporting the arts in Delaware, in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts.

The engagement of the Vienna Piano Trio is a Delaware Performing Arts Presenters Initiative project, a partnership between the Delaware Division of the Arts and Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation, funded by the Foundation in partnership with the National Endowment of the Arts Regional Touring Program.
