Coastal Concerts donates used instruments to Cape schools
Coastal Concerts is celebrating two important anniversaries this year - its 50th concert and the 50th instrument donation to its Toot Your Own Horn program.
Coastal Concerts seeks donations of used musical instruments, and after cleaning, sends them on to music classes for students who may not be able to buy or rent new instruments. This is the seventh year of the program and according to Schlieffer.
“The instruments Coastal Concerts gives us are used for years. Many times they go on with students to middle school and even high school bands. Toot Your Own Horn has made band participation possible for dozens of students over the years.”
This particular saxophone was donated through Coastal Concerts’ website from out of state. Since then two flutes have also been given.
The presentation was made at a Shields Elementary School band practice as the young musicians prepare for an upcoming concert.
Coastal Concerts welcomes donations of used instruments in good condition for this program. Other Coastal Concerts outreach programs include annual scholarships and free public, library and in-school concerts.
