Scholarships
Coastal Concerts has announced the award of two music scholarships during the 2009/2010 concert season, Coastal Concerts' 11th Anniversary Season. These two talented young musicians each received $1,000 for furthering their musical education. Scholarship applications will be available online mid September of each year.
Maria Scott, Classical Pianist Maria Scott is a second-time Coastal Concerts scholarship winner. She is from Bridgeville, Delaware and is a home-schooled senior. Maria has received many honors during her 10 years’ study of piano. The most recent is the prestigious National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts (NFFA) YoungARTS™ 2010 Merit Award for piano. YoungARTS™, the core program of NFAA, identifies the nation's most talented high school seniors. She has been a first-place winner in a number of Southern Delaware Music Teachers Association competitions since 2001.
Maria has been accepted into the Peabody Conservatory of Music, Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore majoring in piano performance. |
Sierra Spicer, Vocalist - Musical Theater Sierra Spicer is a senior at Laurel High School and has studied voice for six years. She is known to area audiences through her many performances at Possum Point Players, the Second Street Players, and lead roles in her high school drama club. Sierra has a lengthy list of civic and school-related accomplishments and has won many awards for academic achievement, leadership, and community service. She is the recipient of scholarships from the Janosik Family Foundation and from the Samsung American Legion.
Sierra will attend Lynchburg College in Lynchburg VA, majoring in Theater and Communications. |
