Guidelines for a Music Scholarship
Once again, Coastal Concerts is pleased to announce two competitive scholarships to students in music performance, education, or composition. Each scholarship will be in the amount of $1,000. It is intended to defray expenses incident to the study of music including tuition, fees, and travel. Preferential consideration will be given to high school juniors and seniors who have been accepted by a music school or program. Applications and guidelines will be mailed on request or are available on our website www.coastalconcerts.org. Also, please check with your school guidance office.
Application Procedures: Candidates are encouraged to seek guidance from school guidance administrators and/or instructors in completing the application.
Candidates must submit:
- A letter including the purpose, place, and time in which the money will be used; and career plans or goals in music.
- A synopsis of music experience including band/orchestra/choir, recitals, performances, honors,summer workshops, and repertory examples.
- A recording of two contrasting selections representative of the student's work, including the title of and composer of selections (Video, CD, DVD).
- The complete, legible, application, including current contact information.
- Two letters of reference, from music teachers or professionals in the field, which reflect the candidate's talent, ability, performances, and/or potential.
- High school transcript.
Time Line:
- October 3 Applications are mailed.
- November 21 Deadline for all application materials to Coastal Concerts.
- December 19 - 31 The selected candidate will be notified.
- January – April The candidate will attend a Coastal Concerts performance as a guest of Coastal Concerts where the award will be presented.
As appropriate: The student will present statements or receipts to the Outreach Committee for approval and payment.
