A Message from the President

GET INVOLVED WITH COASTAL CONCERTS

Many people in our community who know about the chamber music concerts and educational outreach activities of Coastal Concerts describe Coastal Concerts as a jewel, a hidden gem in the rich cultural resources of southern Delaware.

This is certainly my view, and that so many of you share this perspective is both gratifying and worrisome for me, for this jewel is not a treasure which will prosper and thrive just because it is highly valued. Rather, its survival requires that those of us who treasure this treasure become involved in its care and nurture.

There are many ways to become involved with the ongoing survival of Coastal Concerts. The good news is that as you read this you are already involved.  You are attending a concert or you are visiting our web site.  Thank you!

By now you probably know where this is going. We desperately need you to become more involved. Attending and enjoying our concerts is a wonderful first step, but making a donation to Coastal Concerts is also critical for the organization to achieve revenues which will enable the continuation of the concerts and outreach programs.

In the last year we have twice mailed to you requests for donations, the first time Coastal Concerts has asked for support in this way in its 12 year history.  Many of you responded generously to these requests, raising your level of involvement with Coastal Concerts significantly. We deeply appreciate this increased support. Thank you again!

But yes, there is more. At its heart, Coastal Concerts has been and continues to be volunteer driven. While the growth and maturation of Coastal Concerts into a major Delaware cultural and arts organization necessitated hiring Edna Ellett as our able and extremely effective Executive Director, we must rely on volunteers to manage and run an increasingly challenging enterprise.

We always need volunteers to participate in such activities as setting-up and managing the hall on concert weekends, distributing brochures and posters, organizing mailings, selling advertising space in our program booklet, and keeping information on our web site up-to-date.

The highest and most urgent level of getting involved with Coastal Concerts, however, is in the areas of governance and development. We need volunteers to serve on the Coastal Concerts Board of Directors, to organize and lead a volunteer coordination program, and to create and participate in a long term development and fundraising program.

We need YOU to get involved with Coastal Concerts, to participate in the care and nurturing of the programs and activities we have come to value so highly. To volunteer, contact us through the “Get Involved” section of our website, by emailing us at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. , or by introducing yourself to me or Edna Ellett, our Executive Director, at one of our concerts. Thank you!

Sincerely and appreciatively yours,

David Cristy
