Danish Quartet - October 9, 2010
In early April, 2009, the talented Danish String Quartet gave a stunning performance in the final of the Eleventh London International String Quartet Competition 2009. The triennial competition is widely acknowledged as one of the world’s leading competitions of its kind. The young, yet widely experienced, quartet, not only won the First Prize, but they also took with them a number of special awards. No strangers to winning prestigious competitions, in the spring of 2004 the quartet won the Danish Broadcasting Corporation’s Chamber Music Competition. The young quartet took the First Prize as well as the prize for the best performance of a contemporary piece.
Later they went on to win First Prize and the Audience Prize in the 2004 Holmboe String Quartet Competition 2004, First Prize in the 19th Charles Hennen International Chamber Music Competition (Holland, April 2004) and First Prize as well as the Audience Prize at the Trondheim International Chamber Music Competition in Norway (September 2005). In 2006 the quartet was Artist in residence at Danish Radio. In 2007 and 2008, the quartet recorded all the string quartets by Carl Nielsen on the Dacapo Label. The Danish String Quartet will perform with Coastal Concerts in Lewes in October 2010, as part of their first major United States concert tour. Buy Tickets Now
